Costa Classica

Costa Classica
The Costa Classica is one of the Costa Cruise fleet Classica class of ships and was launched in 1991. She has a sister ship the Costa Romantica. Since entering into service the Costa Classica has had a couple of refits, 2001 and 2005, but has also had some dry dock time for repairs in 2010.

The Costa Classica is loved by many passengers who return time and time again, enjoying the welcoming and surprising personality, and to relax in the recently refurbished furnishings.

The ship has a classical style and refinement, with plenty of windows, especially on the upper decks, giving amazing views.
Some sights to see while on board are its large two storey theatre, which includes a large mosaic by Emilio Tadini or the Alfresco Café, where passengers can relax on a terrace, shielded from the harshest glare of the sun, by a large white sail. Its these little touches that passengers love to return to again and again.

For passengers who prefer to party and dance there is the 360 degree Galileo Disco lounge, where you are guaranteed to find like minded passengers willing to dance the night away. For those wanting a pampered cruise there is always the spa and fitness centre where you can either attack those extra pounds gained through the excellent dining on board or relax under a massage from one of the trained professionals.

The ship is very Italian focussed, but this will not affect your enjoyment, and as they say when in Rome. The ship often offers the opportunity to learn Italian, so go on, immerse yourself in the culture, food and everything

Ship particulars

Food
The Costa Classica has one main restaurant, the Trivoli Restaurant and some buffet and snack restaurants. The main restaurant follows normal cruising standards of being available during the day for breakfast and dinner on an open seating arrangement, and for two sittings in the evening, based on pre arranged table plans assigned when you first board the ship. It's certainly worth a visit, as you are presented with an outstanding six course meal, from a constantly changing menu and of course always capped with a huge selection of desserts.

For a more relaxed attmosphere, you can always visit La Taverna Pizza. During the day, this little restaurant offers slices of pizza all day long, whereas in the evening, you can sit and relax with a pizza made just for you. Some passengers like to hide away here to avoid the more formal nights, whatever your choice and reasons, you will find something suited to your needs. There is even Il Dolce Amore Patisserie, which is there to serve those lovely little Italian pastries that we know we shouldn't but we all know we will.

Excercise

A number of things on board the Costa Classica will have you working up a sweat and removing those gained pounds from the selection of foods in the restaurants. There are sports facilities including swimming pools, a fitness centre, outdoor jogging track and gymnasium if this is your passion, but there are also various classes including dance classes. There are also competitions to spark that competitve streak. The Spa itself has a sauna and steam room plus treatment rooms for massages.

Formal nights

The Costa Classica, as with all Costa ships do have formal evenings. On average it is roughly two over the seven days and three over 12 days. But this is dependent on other matters such as itinerary. Dress code varies, many of the passengers do attend and dress up, with a good mix of shirts vs dinner jackets. Staff have been known to ask people to change dress to attend the formal dining. Again avoidance by using another part of the ship is possible and the formal night is not compulsory.

Smoking

The Costa Classica allows smoking on the open decks, in cabins, including balconies, and in designated smoking areas in most public rooms
