Costa Mediterranea

Costa Mediterranea
The Costa Mediterranea is a Spirit-class cruise ship owned and operated by Costa Cruises. She has a sister ship, The Costa Mediterranea and is designed along the lines of the original Carnival Cruise Lines' Spirit class ships. For anyone having travelled on Carnival Cruises, as you step inside the Costa Mediterranea, you will suddenyl feel at home. This is due the interiors being designed by Carnival architect Joe Farcus. Once again, his magic of creating huge open spaces covered in opulent materials is abound here. The striking Atriu stretching up through the decks to the skylight is a sight to behold.

The interiors are inspired by Italian art and architecture found in famous palaces and villas. These reflect the golden age of Italian art. Famous places that have helped contribute to the look and feel of the Costa Mediterranea include Barbaro Palace in Venice, Albrizzi Palace in Venice and the Villa La Pietra in Florence are to name a few.

The main dining room, the Argentieri Restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a balcony and over 139 pieces of artwork created from silver. On the outside, you will find plenty of places to sit and relax in the sun or to enjoy the swimming pools. One of the swimming pools even has a retractable roof, in case the weather gets a little cooler, or, for the children, one of the pools has a cascading water slide. Whatever your preferences, the Costa Mediterranea is a fun and friendly ship.

Food
Seating 1,300 people per sitting, the two level Argentieri Restaurant , built above the main galley, providing more room than normal, you can watch as the serving staff appear via escalator as they work wonders serving the large number of passengers swiftly, politely and friendly.

Alternatively, there is the Perla del Lago buffet restaurant. This buffet restaurant is a great way to relax without all the formalities of the main dining room, and with the ability to pick and choose from a great deal of different food types and quantities. If you wish to push the boat out, why not try the Club Medusa (a la carte club restaurant). This specialist restaurant carries a small charge per head, but with exclusive menus created by world class Italian chefs, including great creations from seafood served on Versace plates, you will find that, once inside, and relaxing by the window, eating some fine foods and enjoying fine wines, you can justify that little extra expense. If you fancy more of a snack, why not pop into the Pizzeria Posillipo. Here you will find lovely fresh pizzas, you can take a slice of the family favourites, however, it is possible to order a more unique one for yourself, which will be cooked freshly for you.

For those staying on board on the Wellness program, there are certain benefits, one of these is maintaining a healthy and balanced diet. In order to do this, the Costa Mediterranea has an exclusive Wellness restaurant. At the Wellness Restaurant you will be presented with delicious but low calorie menus in a relaxing environment.

Excercise

The Ischia Spa and wellbeing centre with gym, treatment rooms, sauna, Turkish bath, UVA-ray solarium provide passengers with the facilities to relax and enjoy being pampered, however for those wanting excercise, there is a terrific running track and Multi purpose sports pitch to ensure guests have a chance to work off any extras they may have indulged in on board the Costa Mediterranea.

The gym itself is full of modern exercise equipment, and due to the design, you can exercise and have a great view as many of the machines are sea facing allowing you to watch where you are at sea whilst burning those calories.

Formal nights

The Costa Mediterranea, as with all Costa ships do have formal evenings. On average it is roughly two over the seven days and three over 12 days. But this is dependent on other matters such as itinerary. Dress code varies, many of the passengers do attend and dress up, with a good mix of shirts vs dinner jackets. Staff have been known to ask people to change dress to attend the formal dining. Again avoidance by using another part of the ship is possible and the formal night is not compulsory.

Smoking

The Costa Mediterranea allows smoking on the open decks, in designated cabins including balconies, and in designated smoking areas in most public rooms. Some passengers have reported that the smoking can be quite intense onboard and smokers seem to have a tendancy to stray into other areas which can annoy non smoking passengers.
